Mistfall Hunter Gameplay GuideExtraction · Combat · Maps · Classes · Ciphers
Everything you need to run, fight, and extract efficiently — from the basics of the looting loop to advanced PvP tactics and the Cipher system. Updated August 2026.
The Run Cycle — Loadout, Loot, Fight, and Extract
Every Mistfall Hunter session is a self-contained run. You enter the mist, collect loot, fight monsters and rival hunters, and must extract alive to keep what you found. Death without extraction means losing everything except items stored in Pip's Pouch.
1 — Configure Your Loadout
Before queuing, select your class, weapon stance, active skills, talents, gear, consumables, tactical items, and Affix Gems. Prepare two kits: a replaceable kit for risky runs and ahigh-value kit for confident pushes.
2 — Enter the Map with an Objective
Each run should have one clear objective — farm materials, contest a POI, or push for Legendary loot. An undirected run wastes time and increases exposure. Check the map guide for route suggestions.
3 — Loot, Fight, and Manage Inventory
Scavenge containers, defeat marked and purple-brand enemies, and complete visible quests. When your bag fills, immediately drop Grey (Normal)items to make room. Mark high-value items for priority extraction.
4 — Extract or Lose Everything
Find a Returner Woodling, obtain the Soul of Return bell, and channel the extraction portal. Dying before extraction strips all non-pouched loot. Full extraction guide: ↓ below.
Solo Mode vs. Trio Mode
Mistfall Hunter supports solo queue andthree-player squad (trio) modes. There is currently no official duo mode. Solo runs reward independence — one bell, faster decisions, quieter gameplay. Trios dominate contested zones but require coordinated extraction with three separate Souls of Return.
Note — No Pure PvE Mode
There is currently no PvE-only mode. Every run places you on a shared map with other human players.
Death and Loot Loss — What You Keep
Items in your main inventory are lost on death without extraction.Pip's Pouch (Safe Pockets) is a dedicated inventory slot whose contents survive death. Always slot your highest-rarity loot before any dangerous engagement. Gear stored in your Camp warehouse is never at risk.
Hallowgrove and Brandrgarde — Maps, Objectives, and Routes
Two maps are available at launch. Hallowgrove is the recommended starting map for new players. Brandrgarde introduces Gyldenmist collapse pressure from the start of the run.Full map guide with POI details →
Hallowgrove — The Default Starting Map
Normal difficulty · Low early PvE pressure · Best map for farming routes and learning extraction
Key Areas and Points of Interest
Divine Anchor
High-competition zone. High-value POI and exploration quest markers are clustered nearby. Approach carefully — contested by well-geared players.
Supreme Hall
High-value loot location in the outer section. Recommended as an early target before moving toward Divine Anchor.
Einherjar Ship Grave
Key-locked area with elite loot. Requires Einherjar Ship Grave keys to access the highest-tier containers.
Recommended Route Strategy
Start counterclockwise from your spawn. Push toward Supreme Hallfirst, then evaluate whether to contest Divine Anchor based on how many other players have been spotted. The right side of Divine Anchor contains high-value POIs and exploration quest markers — safer than the contested center. Watch for the "A player is ringing a Woodling Chime" notification: count the chimes to estimate how many teams are pushing toward extraction points.
Farming Tip
For Normal difficulty farming, avoid Divine Anchor center entirely and loop between Supreme Hall and the right-side POIs. You will collect Legendary-adjacent loot with minimal PvP exposure.
Brandrgarde — Gyldenmist Challenge Map
Normal and Cataclysm difficulty · Gyldenmist spreads from the start · High-pressure extraction timing
Gyldenmist Phases and Navigation
Unlike Hallowgrove, Brandrgarde's Gyldenmist begins spreading from the moment you enter. Before moving, check the map to identify zones not yet covered. Returner Woodlings only spawn in areas the mist has not reached — plan your extraction route around the mist's advance, not just your loot targets.
Underlord Speed Challenge
Brandrgarde features a planned Underlord speed challenge as future content. Defeating the Underlord quickly will affect bonus rewards. Details are confirmed in the developer roadmap but not yet fully implemented.
Mist Danger
The Gyldenmist is lethal when it fully covers your position. Overextending in Brandrgarde without a mapped exit is the most common cause of death for players transitioning from Hallowgrove.
How to Extract — Complete Returner Woodling Guide
Extraction is not automatic and never safe. The Returner Woodling is a contested objective — every player hears the bell. Know both map procedures before you push for high-value loot.
Hallowgrove Extraction — Step by Step
Wait for the Returning Chime to Activate
The Returning Chime activates after a set time into the run. A map icon and a visual glow effect appear at the corresponding area. The Woodling will flee if you don't reach it in time.
Interact with the Returning Chime
Approach and interact with it. A crowd and a moving target indicator lead you toward the objective area. A countdown timer appears — reach it before it expires.
Defeat the Returner Woodling
Engage and defeat the Woodling. Other players will push the same objective — watch for ambushes at the spawn marker, since rivals expect a fight there.
Loot the Soul Tree and Summon the Portal
The Woodling corpse transforms into a Soul Tree. Interact with it using the Summon Portal action (H by default) to generate the Soul of Return.
Channel the Extraction — Interact with the Portal
Stand at the Extraction Point and interact (F) to channel the extraction. Leave the kill site first — other players will arrive at the bell sound. Channel from a defensible position.
Warning: Bell Sound Alerts Every Nearby Player
Every player in range hears the bell. Scan surroundings, position with cover at your back, and be ready to interrupt the channel.
Brandrgarde Extraction — Step by Step
Track the Gyldenmist Phase
Before hunting the Woodling, confirm the current mist phase. Returner Woodlings only appear in mist-free zones — know the boundary before you move.
Listen for the Woodling Howl
Brandrgarde's Woodling announces itself with a sound cue. Use the map position indicator and look for the blue pulsing outline in the environment.
Defeat the Woodling and Collect the Bell
Defeat it, leave the kill site immediately, then use the Soul of Return to create an Extraction Point in a different, less predictable location.
Create and Channel the Extraction Point
Place the Extraction Point away from the Woodling kill zone. Channel the portal while watching the mist boundary — you cannot extract from inside the mist.
Other Extraction Methods
Merchant Woodling
Spend Gyldenblood to extract specific items without completing a full run extraction. Useful when you have one critical item and limited bell access.
Smuggler Woodling
Spawns randomly. Does not require a bell. Can extract safely with limited or Soul Thread conditions. Details vary by patch.
Fixed Exits
Some maps have fixed exit points with limited uses or activation conditions. Check the maps page for current confirmed fixed exit locations.
Trio Extraction — All Three Players Need a Bell
In trio mode, each teammate must individually obtain a Soul of Return bell. One bell does not extract the whole squad. Assign one player as the bell-hunter while the other two loot and guard during each run.
Combat Guide — PvE Tactics, PvP Strategy, and Resource Management
Mistfall Hunter uses third-person action combat with a precision free-aim system. Skill expression matters more than gear advantage — particularly in PvP, where positioning and cooldown management determine the outcome.
PvE Combat — Monsters and Weak Points
Before entering any room, identify what's inside, which attacks have long recovery frames, and where you can disengage.
- Use the precision free-aim system to target glowing weak points — hits deal bonus damage and interrupt enemy attacks.
- Don't over-extend against enemies with delayed attacks. Wait for the recovery frame before committing to a combo.
- After clearing a room, do a fast reset: heal only necessary HP, restore skills/consumables, and reposition before looting.
- Use only one cooldown per engagement on standard enemies. Save burst damage cooldowns for marked or purple-brand enemies.
Managing Stamina, Dodge, and Cooldowns
Stamina governs blocking. Dodge resource governs evasion. Both regenerate over time. Spamming either leaves you exposed at a critical moment.
Rule of Thumb
Always keep at least one dodge charge in reserve. Losing it during a PvP exchange is effectively a death sentence against a coordinated attacker.
PvP Combat — Don't Fight Fair
PvP in Mistfall Hunter rewards aggression and positioning over fair dueling. Key principles:
- Ambushes win fights. Attacking from behind or from elevation during an enemy's looting animation is the highest-percentage play in solo.
- You can run. Disengaging is always a legitimate option. A failed escape still preserves your loot. A lost fair fight doesn't.
- Doors and doorways are natural chokepoints — use them both defensively (force single-file pushes) and offensively (ambush players entering rooms).
- In trio, assign target calls and cooldown tracking. Focus-fire one enemy before switching.
- The Woodling bell sound and extraction channel animations are the two strongest audio indicators of a nearby high-value fight. Use them as bait or avoid them depending on your state.
Third-Party Attacks
If two teams are fighting, wait at the edge of engagement range. Let one team win, then attack the wounded winner. This is the highest-efficiency PvP play in the game. Confirm your extraction route before committing to any third-party.
Solo and Trio Strategies
Playing Solo — Full Control, Full Risk
Solo play requires a build that handles multiple enemies simultaneously, has reliable mobility or escape tools, and can survive one mistimed engagement.Shadowstrix andSorcerer are most recommended for solo play due to stealth/escape mechanics.
- Listen for footsteps and ability sounds. In solo, intel is everything.
- Doors are high-danger chokepoints solo — peek from outside, never push blind.
- Heartbeat sensor usage is recommended for detecting nearby players.
- Hallowgrove Normal difficulty is the preferred map for solo farming runs.
Solo Mode Roadmap
A dedicated Solo mode for Brandrgarde is confirmed in the developer roadmap, replacing the current mist mechanic with a timer-based extraction system.
Playing in a Trio — Coordination Over Raw Power
A well-coordinated trio dominates any PvPvE scenario, but poor coordination is worse than solo. Before entering the map, confirm:
- Which player is the bell-hunter (priority: find Returner Woodling).
- Which player has the best crowd control for PvP engagements.
- Cooldown state before contesting any objective.
- Primary extraction zone and a backup plan if the main zone is contested.
Role complementing matters: pairing Mercenary(frontline) with Sorcerer (burst) andBlackarrow (zone control) covers most combat scenarios. See full class synergies →
All 6 Classes — Gameplay Style and Build Basics

Withered Knight
Greatsword / Polearm & Shield. Wither debuff, parry, heavy counterattack. Best for: aggressive frontline, dueling.
Build Basics — Weapon Stances, Skills, and Talents
Each class has two unlockable weapon stances with different active skill sets. Skills cost Energy and have individual cooldowns. Talents are passive upgrades on a branching tree — invest in synergies that complement your preferred weapon stance. Don't spread talent points evenly; commit to one branch per role.
Affix Gems and Socket System
Gear has sockets of specific types. Wildcard sockets accept any gem type. Socket level determines which gem rarities can be inserted. Rare gem affixes create powerful synergies with class talents — for example, a gem that reduces cooldown on dodge synergizes heavily with Shadowstrix's stealth resets.See the full gear and Affix Gem guide ↓
Gear, Inventory Management, and the Cipher System
Item Priority and What to Keep
A full inventory forces decisions. Apply this priority order every run:
- Pip's Pouch slot — always fill with your single highest-rarity item before any fight.
- High-tier materials and Gyldenblood — needed for camp upgrades and Auction House trades.
- Gear upgrades — only keep if it's a direct improvement; otherwise, store it in the warehouse for future runs.
- Consumables — don't stockpile. Use healing items actively; never hoard emergency healing for "just in case."
- Grey items — drop immediately once your bag fills. They are the lowest-value item in every scenario.
Camp Progression — Workstations and Upgrades
Return to Windrest (your camp) between runs. Priority upgrades: expand Workstations first to unlock higher-tier crafting recipes. Use the Auction House (Gyldenblood currency) to buy rare materials you can't reliably farm. NPCs at camp — including Pip,Merimo, and Sigrid — offer crafting, trading, and Cipher deciphering services.
Cipher Guide — Finding, Solving, and NPC Trading
Ciphers are special loot items containing encrypted clues. Each Cipher's scroll text ends with a hint corresponding to a specific NPC. Bring the Cipher to the correct NPC and select Decipher to unlock the reward. Cipher deciphering unlocks at Class Level 5.
First Decipher Bonus
The first time you deliver a Cipher to the correct NPC, you receive the best possible reward tier. Subsequent deliveries reduce the bonus.
